Barsa

“Barsa” is the naming ceremony, probably the first ritual after the child birth .

Child paternal aunt ( father’s sister ) mutters child’s name in his/her ear.

Peoples from neighborhood, friends, relatives are invited for this ceremony.

Sant Tukaram, one of the most revered Varkari saints of the Bhakti tradition of Maharashtra belonged to kunbi community. Most of the Mawalas serving in the armies of the Maratha Empire under Shivaji Maharaj came from the community. The Shinde and Gaekwad dynasties of the Maratha Empire are originally of Kunbi origin.

Jyotiraditya Scindia of the Scindia (Anglicized from Shinde) dynasty. Scindia’s ancestors were originally of the Kunbi community.
